Planned Outage: Crooked Post Substation, Oct. 12, 2023

FreeState is preparing for a planned power outage on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 11 p.m. This outage is necessary for crews to repair the Crooked Post Substation safely. This outage is expected to last two to three hours.

The cooperative is in the process of making phone calls to all members impacted, so you may also get a phone call about this upcoming outage. If you did not get a phone call about this outage, please let us know, and we’ll make sure your information is updated in our system.

We understand that many of our members rely on a consistent power supply to effectively work or learn from home. This advance notice is important so you can make the necessary arrangements to make sure you can avoid any potential inconvenience or disruption to your daily routines.

To ensure a smooth experience during the planned power outage, we recommend the following steps:

  • Inform Your Family and Household: Please let all household members, including your family, roommates, or any dependents, know about the scheduled power outage. Discuss the importance of preparing for a temporary loss of electricity and work together to create a plan.

  • Charge Electronic Devices: Before the outage, fully charge your electronic devices, including laptops, smartphones, tablets, and any other essential devices you may need. This will ensure you have adequate battery power to stay connected with loved ones via a cellular network.

  • Backup Power Options: If you have a backup source, ensure they are properly maintained, fueled, and ready for use.

  • Data and Internet Connectivity: Save any important work or educational files and documents to ensure you can access them offline during the outage. If you rely on internet connectivity for remote work or learning, you can ask your internet service provider about backup options such as mobile hotspots or tethering capabilities.

  • Critical Supplies: If you have any necessary medications to cover your family's needs that require refrigeration during the outage, consider a cooler of ice to keep important items like medication cool temporarily. Remember that shutting the refrigerator and freezer doors during the outage will help keep items safe inside.

  • Communication with Employers and Educators: Inform your employers, clients, or educational institutions about the scheduled power outage and its potential impact on your ability to work or attend online classes. Please talk about alternative arrangements or rescheduling options if needed.

We recognize the importance of uninterrupted power for your work and educational commitments, and we apologize for any inconvenience this planned outage may cause. We aim to help you prepare your homes and families for this temporary disruption by giving you advance notice.

If you have any questions or concerns about the planned power outage or need further help, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Our dedicated staff is available to provide support and guidance as needed.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. Your safety and well-being are paramount to us, and we appreciate your preparedness for this temporary disruption.
