New Puppies Spark Cute Controlled Chaos
The FreeState family frequently welcomes new additions, even fluffy, four-legged ones.
When Scott Wright, McLouth right-of-way team member, had a litter of seven Australian Cattle dogs, he was positive his coworkers would perk up at the sight of adorable puppies.
“I really enjoy these dogs because they are stock dogs,” Scott said. “And they are very smart and durable. They are just good dogs.”
Melanie Eichman and Paul Herring were two FreeState employees who perked up and made permanent homes for three litter mates.
“I was in the shop one day and Scott was out there showing pictures of his new puppies,” Melanie said. “I texted my husband and later that evening we were at Scott’s that night to get two of the puppies.”
Melanie said their decision to get two puppies came about because she and her husband have always had three dogs at a time. When all three sadly passed away over the last couple years, she had been thinking about the right time to get another. The two Aussie pups often referred to as Heelers both add an exciting element to the family household.
“My house was always full of energy to begin with,” she said. “And now it’s borderline controlled chaos but really fun.”
The couple wanted to give their young son, Hunter, the same experience they had growing up with a dog to learn responsibility, the kind that only comes with caring for a puppy.
“I think every little boy needs a dog.” Melanie said. “And, I had a blue heeler when I was a kid. So, I instantly knew we needed to get at least one.”
Pups Nova and Chevelle recently graduated puppy beginner training and have already started intermediate dog training school. If all goes to plan, Melanie’s husband, Curtis, looks forward to having them join him on his kayak this summer.
