Creative Cake Pops Spark Connection
Making connections is what Chelsea Villanueva, FreeState human resources generalist, does for a living, but a global pandemic pushed this young professional in a new direction. Like others in lockdown, Chelsea found an unexpected hobby that turned into a creative business opportunity.
In early 2021, Chelsea wanted to offer guests at her sister’s baby shower a unique, portable treat to take home with them. Although Chelsea had never made cake pops before, she knew it was the perfect treat for any occasion or celebration.
“My sister and I experimented with making them and flavor testing,” she said. “It gave us a chance to spend time together, and I realized that it was actually pretty fun.”
The news that Chelsea was creating cake pops spread like wildfire, and she quickly realized she needed to officially transition this hobby to a business. In October of 2021, Chelsea officially launched “Dip’d Creations”.
Last year, Chelsea estimated she made over 4,500 individualized cake pop creations. She places an importance on the personal connection and customer service she provides to her customers.
“I pride myself on the overall experience my customers pay for,” Chelsea said. “You can’t just get cake pops anywhere, there is a lot of preparation and time that goes into each order. I make sure to follow up with each customer and ask how everything was and if they have any feedback for me.”
Although Dip’d creations is owned and operated by Chelsea, she never fails to give proper credit to her family and loved ones, aware that her business would not be where it is today without their consistent help and encouragement.
“My husband is an essential asset to the business,” she said. “My mom, too. She always comes over and helps decorate and package, especially large orders. I couldn’t do it without their support.”
Chelsea has connected with other small business owners including “Oh My Goodies” by Sara Jean, a local baker that specializes in cakes. The two collaborate on orders where a customer may want both a cake and cake pops to match.
“We both started our baking businesses around the same time,” she said. “A customer will reach out and want a cake and cake pops, so we share our visions and help them mirror one another. It has been fun being able to partner with her on orders.”
Chelsea communicates with customers and receives orders through Dip’d Creations Facebook page, where she first begins to bring their visions to life. She offers nine flavors ranging from extreme chocolate to lemon raspberry as well as seasonal flavors that are sure to fit each customer’s dream, even yours.
The creative spark Chelsea brings to each order is just another way she can foster powerful connections – outside the office.
